About Us

The Yureka network of international arts organisations was created in 2023 to identify how local arts centres can best reach, engage and support young people’s mental health through arts activities offered in person and online.

These activities include all art forms such as visual art, dance, music, theatre, creative writing and those specifically appealing to young people: graffiti, hip-hop, street dance, beat-boxing, etc.

A considerable amount of research has shown strong evidence that engaging young people in different arts forms and practices can improve communication and social skills, build stronger relationships, and support young people’s emotions to become more resilient to any sort of mental distress.

According to the World Health Organisation 1 in 7 people (10-19 year-olds) experiences  mental conditions such as depression, anxiety and behaviour disorders, and suicide is the fourth leading cause of death among 15-29 year-olds.

Yureka’s Vision:
Together, as a coalition, the Yureka network of international arts organisations, academics and policy makers can play a stronger role in promoting the importance of the arts to young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

Yureka’s mission:
Creating robust evidence of how creativity and the arts positively impact young people’s mental health through an expanding network of arts organisations and academic researchers.

In the near future, the WHO (World Health Organisation) can use Yureka network’s collected evidence to build guidelines and recommendations for more investment in community arts organisations supporting young people’s mental health and resilience.
